Best Companies 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016

CHS enters this national staff survey every 2 years.

Sunday Time 100In 2016, we were placed 14th, gaining 2 star ‘outstanding’ status. Read more. Our position has improved year-on-year, from being placed 75th in 2010, when we first started our Best Companies journey.

The list is one of the largest workplace engagement surveys in the UK, and accreditation is seen as recognition for great work practices and employee care. We analyze the feedback to try to improve on our weaker areas.

CHS is about creating better opportunities in life for our customers. We try to do this by providing high quality, good value services that we’d be happy for our families and friends to use. None of this would be possible without our dedicated and motivated team of employees, 25% of whom have worked for us for more than 10 years. Everyone here believes that the way a service is carried out is as important as the actual service itself and this is why the attitude and skills of the people we employ are so important. We are really pleased that our staff feel we are one of the top organisations to work for.

Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors 2012

Richard Newcombe Court, our extra care scheme in Cambridge was shortlisted for the RICS 2012 awards in the Design and Innovation and Community Benefit categories.

Big Lottery and European Social Fund

CHS and its partners were granted funding for our New Horizons project. New Horizons helps people make sense of their money, get on-line and get closer to the job market. The project is aimed at those who are struggling to make ends meet or are facing financial changes. Participants will each receive an average of 20 hours of one to one support from a coach, who will help them to set realistic goals and take the necessary steps to meet them. Whilst the primary focus for most participants will be around managing their money, participants will also have help to get on-line, and to start to look for work, or get into training or education. Those who need it will have access to debt management services.

CHS Achievement Awards

To coincide with our 90th birthday we are acknowledging the amazing successes many of our residents & service users achieve despite some very challenging circumstances and so we have created the CHS Achievement Award.

We are immensely proud of the people we support and feel it is important that these achievements are celebrated. These may include achievements in education or training, working or volunteering within the local community, gaining a skill or knowledge, or overcoming a personal challenge. Whatever the achievement, it should demonstrate commitment, hard work, resilience and dedication. The achievements are marked by the presentation of a certificate and a small financial award by Nigel Howlett, our Chief Executive.

Social Value

CHS’s diverse range of activities enables us to make a considerable contribution in terms of social return. CHS has a strong record of investment in the local community, and we use the HACT Social Value calculator to assess the social value generated by some of the activities and our Community Investment and Community Support Services teams generated a social impact of £2.8m in 2016-7. Please see our annual report for further details.
