The Surviving Winter Appeal, co-ordinated by Cambridgeshire Community Foundation (CCF), has been running for the last two winters thanks to the generous support of individual donors who donate their winter fuel allowance and local media partners who promote the appeal.   12.8% of households in Cambridgeshire go cold over winter, according to the latest government figures. That figure increases for Peterborough to 15.2% and to 14.9% for the city of Cambridge. This means that almost 50,000 households in Cambridgeshire are fuel poor.

Michael O’Toole, CEO of Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, said: “Shockingly, fuel poverty is a very real issue for many across our county. Vulnerable people including families with young children and isolated older people will see fuel prices rocket. This leads to people having to choose whether to heat their homes or cook a hot meal. We are pleading with those who can, please give generously to our Surviving Winter Appeal so we can make sure the funds reach people in need this winter.”

Money raised will be awarded in the form of grants to CHS and other local community groups and charities who support vulnerable people to stay warm and have access to energy this winter.

Other partners this year are:
