Residents at Moorlands Court in Melbourn are benefitting from CHS Group’s intergenerational care programme, where pre-school children from the local Little Hands Nursery join them for arts and crafts, singing and story reading sessions, to help improve the happiness and wellbeing of all involved.
Moorlands Court is an extra-care housing site for older people and adults with care needs where, with the support of skilled staff, residents are able to enjoy dignified and independent living.
Denise Taylor, Extra Care Services Manager, said: “It’s fantastic to witness the huge benefits that intergenerational care can bring, and we are pleased to be able to bring two generations together to boost our residents’ happiness and wellbeing. On the agenda this week are homemade Playdough and ‘funky fingers’.”
The programme at Moorlands Court is inspired by the visits from CHS Group’s Sunflower Nursery in Cambridge, to Richard Newcombe Court, another CHS extra care scheme. Other successful CHS intergenerational schemes include visits from students at Chesterton Village College to Langdon House residential care home as part of the YOPEY befriender scheme, and 3 PhD students living at reduced rents at our Ellis House sheltered housing scheme in return for volunteering activities with the residents.
