Since our service began 18 months ago, our New Horizons team have successfully worked with over 130 people offering help in Cambridge City, Huntingdon and Fenland. We have been helping people save money on their utility bills, switch mobile phone provider. We’ve helped them get on line and get into volunteering or paid work.

Sarah contacted New Horizons after she saw a poster advertising tablet loans and computer training.  After registering with New Horizons she was given a tablet on loan for 6 months, as well as one-to-one support from a New Horizons coach Amanda. Working with Amanda was hassle free and she made appointments to work around my children’s schooling and any other commitments I had.   She helped me with preparing myself for work, sorting out my debts, budgeting and enrolling me on courses to add to my CV.  We met frequently, once or twice a month and maintained regular email and phone contact.”

Our New Horizons team offers those who are not in work, face to face coaching on money, getting on-line and getting closer to employment.  They also run a user-friendly website called www.makingmoneycount.org.uk offering local help and easy to understand information. It covers Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and West Norfolk

Sarah says “Since receiving support from New Horizons my situation has improved greatly and I now have internet access at my home and use the internet easily and safely via a laptop, kindles and mobile phones.  I use the internet to do my banking, shopping, sending emails and social media.  With the support from New Horizons I now have an up to date CV and have got all my debts under control including the £4000 water bill that was causing me distress.  I would highly recommend New Horizons and have actually passed on the details to a neighbour who now also sees Amanda.  I would like to thank Amanda and Sally for all their help over the last 18 months.  I really appreciate it.

Heidi Allen, MP for South Cambridgeshire supports the project and says “New Horizons is a great service, offering valuable support to local people.  Their results so far are excellent and have helped many people overcome problems that have prevented them from getting into work.”
